As per the Bylaws of the Jain Center of Southern California (JCSC), our Center has two governing bodies: The Executive Committee and the Board of Directors.
The Executive Committee has responsibility for the general day-to-day operations of JCSC. Examples include - organizing and coordinating religious and cultural activities, manage the Derasar and the library, organize and schedule JCYC classes, etc. On the other hand, the Board of Directors is involved with broad policy and setting future goals and direction for the Center. Examples include - future facility expansions, management of existing assets, and coordinating major repairs and renovations. Four officers of the Executive Committee, namely, the President, the Vice-President, the Secretary, and the Treasurer also serve on the Board of Directors.
The Executive Committee consists of 15 members including five Officers: the President, the Vice-President, the Secretary, the Treasurer, and the Public Relations Officer. All members including the five officers have a two-year term. Total Eight (8) Positions are available for EC this year - Five (5) EC officer positions, 1 (one) First Time member, 1 (one) young member who is between the age of 21 and 35 years, and 1 (one) regular member.
The Board of Directors consists of 11 (seven + four officers from EC) members. Two positions out of the seven will be vacant. One donor BOD position and one regular BOD member position.
The Nomination Committee is seeking nominations for positions as indicated on the Executive Committee Nomination form. We invite interested, dedicated and eligible members who have completed one full year of life membership prior to the year of nomination to serve on the Executive Committee. Candidates are urged to carefully review the eligibility requirements before completing the Nomination form. Candidates should also note that they must submit only one Nomination form either for the Executive Committee or for the Board of Directors.
A completed Nomination form should be received by regular mail, email address shown on the form or through JCSC website jaincenter.org. A printed copy of the same form will be available at the temple with our Pujari Ji - Amrish Bhai. All forms should be received by Monday, September 11, 2017. Mailed forms should be post-marked latest by Thursday, September 7, 2017. Forms received after September 11, 2017 midnight as well as nominations from the floor will not be accepted. A candidate may voluntarily withdraw from consideration by communicating in writing with any member of the Nomination Committee on or before Thursday, September 21, 2017.
If there are more candidates than the open positions, nomination committee will hold a meeting with all candidates to meet each other and exchange views. This meeting, if necessary, will be held at at 8:30 PM on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the Jain Center office. Notification will be sent.
The Nomination Committee will present its report to the EC at the EC meeting on September 24, 2017. The EC will follow appropriate due process and procedures in considering the nominees. If an election becomes necessary, the election committee appointed by the EC will conduct them.
